Klein Curacao
Nestled amidst azure waters, Klein Curacao is a petite Caribbean gem. This uninhabited island boasts a pristine white beach, a vibrant reef, and abundant marine life. A mere 25km from Curacao, it spans 1.7 square kilometers, hosting one of the world’s most breathtaking beaches.
Fishing
Curacao is a destination that truly offers incredible fishing opportunities all year round. While there are specific months we recommend for optimal fishing experiences, it’s important to note that regardless of the time you visit, you can always expect to catch something in Curacao’s local waters.
Do you need a fishing permit?
No fishing permit is needed, or required.
Which times do you recommend for fishing?
April – July & from September – December.
Which lures to use?
Crabs, shrimps, raw chicken )that does not flake, small bait fish. Frozen squid or fish from the supermarket, cut up in small pieces (kept cool on ice) works, as well.
What equipment to use? Can/should you bring your own equipment?
Any telescopic rod from works, if you prefer to fish with a fishing rod. Otherwise, a spool of 10lbs fishing-line, with a hook and a sinker, is sufficient. It is recommended to use a good braided line, or a high quality mono line, as corals will rip a cheaper quality up.
What is “yoyo” fishing?
Google it, to learn how to do it, or ask anyone in a fishing village to explain how it works. It’s pretty simple and it works better than fishing poles. Usually a 10lbs fishing-line, on a spool with a hook and a sinker is sufficient. Use a good braided line, or a high quality mono (cheap mono will just get eaten up).
What type of fish can I catch off the coast/shore?
Small grunts, yellowtails, small groupers or small barracuda. Near flats you can catch tarpon, bonefish and permit.
Where are some good fishing spots, for shore fishing?
Good spots are at Tugboat beach and Punda off the pier, in St Marthbaai, near the canal opening. Pretty much any spot is a good one, as long as there are no swimmers, divers or snorkelers in the water.
Is there a fishing store, on the island?
There is a big fishing store in the Sambil shopping mall, as well as “Budget marine” or “Island water world” on Caracasbaaiweg.
Which fish species can you target?
You can target a variety of species including great barracuda, blue marlin, white marlin, bonefish, bonito, mahi-mahi, king mackerel, permit, sailfish, tarpon, albacore tuna, blackfin tuna, skipjack tuna, yellowfin tuna, and wahoo, as well as lionfish.
