Hiking
In addition to the official national parks’ hiking trails, such as Shete Boka and Mount Christoffel, Curacao offers numerous hiking trails catering to hikers of all fitness levels, from beginners to advanced. Villapark Fontein is encircled by several hiking trails, including:
Seru di Neger Trail: Pass by a monument commemorating those who fought for slaves’ freedom.
Noorden Oost Trail: Considered the most challenging trail, it takes you through arid and thorny vegetation, rewarding you with panoramic views of Landhuis Ascension. Remember to start early due to limited shade.
Magazijn Trail: Explore the ruins of an old plantation warehouse along this trail.
Soembu Trail: Follow the slave wall, which offers picturesque views of Fontein, Willbrodrus, and San Pedro (windmills toward the airport).
Here are a few essential tips for hiking:
-
- Begin your hike early in the morning.
- Carry an ample supply of water.
- Bring your phone for GPS navigation and emergencies.
- Wear lightweight, long pants to protect your legs from thorny vegetation.
- Opt for sturdy hiking or trail running shoes to ensure comfort and safety.
